Customer identity and site location are withheld in this public case note. The technical sequence is based on a completed PNSS troubleshooting intervention.

Reported issue

The site reported unstable connectivity between the CAYIN digital-signage player and the administrator PC, together with content-upload and playback problems.

What PNSS found

  • IP address conflict: the administrator PC and CAYIN player were configured with the same IP address.
  • Network-switch issue: the existing mini network switch was hung/unresponsive.
  • Content interruption: one particular content file stopped during playback while other content played normally, indicating an isolated transfer/file issue rather than a general playback failure.

Corrective actions

  • Corrected the IP-address conflict.
  • Restored the unresponsive mini switch and re-established network communication.
  • Verified communication between the administrator PC and the CAYIN player.
  • Re-uploaded the affected content and repeated upload/playback testing after the network was stable.

Testing and verification

Completed service outcome

The administrator PC could ping the CAYIN player consistently, network communication remained stable, content uploaded without interruption and playback completed smoothly during the verification period.

Engineering lesson

A signage fault should not automatically be treated as a player or CMS failure. IP addressing, switches, cabling, uplinks and content-transfer integrity can produce symptoms that appear to originate from the media player. A structured troubleshooting sequence avoids unnecessary hardware replacement.

  • Check the network layer before replacing the signage player.
  • Separate a single corrupt/incomplete content file from a system-wide playback problem.
  • Verify with repeatable ping, upload and playback tests.
  • Keep monitoring the network infrastructure if an intermittent switch fault has occurred.
